The Bruce Peninsula
Welcome to Moeke's Ankerstee Bed and Breakfast in the Beautiful Bruce Peninsula

The Bruce Peninsula is a place of natural wonders.
Home to one of the earth's Unesco Biospheres, the Bruce Peninsula has some of the most beautiful and rugged landscapes in North America:

Things to do when staying at Moeke's.

  1. Drive up to the Cabot Head Light House and explore the grounds. Have a picnic lunch at the picnic tables or down by the basin. Go for a swim at the Basin. Explore the museum, store and art gallery. On the way back visit Virginia's garden in Dyers Bay.
  2. On Wednesdays and the weekends spend the day going to the nearby gardens, Larkwhistle and Virginia's.
  3. Hike the Bruce Trail. From Moeke's you are only a short distance from Devil's Monument. Park the car at the Municipal parking lot at the top of the hill in Dyers Bay, cross the road and start the "Michigander's Trail". Before you turn inland view the natural stone bridge and besure to take a picture of yourselves at "Orgasm Point" then continue on inland besure to look for the many small caves along the ridge. When you come to Brittany Road, you have the choice of going south heading for the Devil's Monument trail and its side trial to view the glacial pot hole or continue on across the road to Cottrill Side trail and then going to the Devil's Monument. Returning back to your car via the blue trail. This can be done in one day or if your just beginning to hike then take your time and do it in 2 days. The second or third day you can choose to hike across the top of Dyers Bay.
  4. You can spend the day in the National Park (only 20 minutes away). Spend the day hiking around Cyprus lake, explore the Grotto, swim at the Grotto. Or if you want a bit more quiet, go to Emmett Lake and Half Way Log Dump and explore the small sea stacks and the quiet fern covered rocks below the Bruce Trail. You can even hike from there to the Grotto - a 2 and 1/2 hour hike. But it is rated "strenuous" by the trail people, so do be careful.
  5. If you have little children then spending the day at the beach at Singing Sands is ideal.
  6. For those who love rare flowers and easy walking, a day at Singing Sands is ideal. Walk along the board walk to view the Pitcher Plants. Then continue on the gravel path parallel to the beach and view the orchids that are in bloom (depending upon the season) and stroll back along the beach to your car. Have a picnic lunch at the beach. Or bring a picnic dinner and view the sunset from the beach.
  7. Tobermory. is only 20 minutes away from Moeke's as well. Here you can explore the quaint shops, have lunch, dinner or snack, take a boat cruise to Flower Pot Island and if time permits walk the Island and explore.
  8. While in Tobermory stroll along the harbour and continue on to visit the Park's new Visitor Centre, hike the Burns Trail and take a cool dip in Georgian Bay from the trail.
  9. Take a dinner cruise aboard the Chi-Cheemaun and view Cove Island and our spectacular sunsets.
  10. Have a night out with Voyageur story telling and a country dinner, but book early as it is a favourite and seating is limited.
  11. Visit the Lion's Head area and hike the Gun Point Loop or parts there off.
  12. Explore the many back roads and visit "Grieg's Caves" where parts of the film "Quest for Fire" was filmed, go on to Barrow Bay and Hope Bay before heading west to Pike and Little Pike Bay.
  13. Spend a day on the North Cape Chin Road - book a spa package with Aromatica, stop off at Pottery By Ben and then have lunch or dinner at Cape Chin Connection Country Inn.
  14. Shop and explore the back roads. We have many artisans living in the area, such as Pottery By Ben, Miller Lake Pottery, not to forget the "Candle Shop" at Miller Lake. While there, don't forget to check the facilities at the Summer House Park at Miller Lake, for boating, fishing, and lunch. Then go one to visit the many small art studio's that are open to the public in and around Lion's Head.
  15. There are just so many things to do and see once you are here, I'm sure that you may wish to come back and do what you haven't done the first time or see the Peninsula in a different season.
